Amazing to see both the joys and sadness of being a Villa fans in the space of half hour on Sunday. The team went 2-0 up in the midlands derby against high flyers Leicester city, thanks to a lovely first time strikes from Grealish and Gil. Only for Leicester to stage a remarkable come back and win 3-2.

Having a 2 goal advantage is never enough especially when you are Aston Villa. I have genuinely lost count of how many times Villa have thrown away 2 goal lead over recent seasons. My first thought when Gil banged in the second goal was “that was a little against the run of play, I can see Leicester still getting something from this” – Perhaps I jinxed it. The team looked laboured and tired in the second half. I do not understand why Sherwood made 2 substitutes to bring on strikers when you are winning a game. Surely, the correct decision should have been to protect what you have. Obviously once Leicester drew level, they were the only team that looked like they were going to win. Ayew and Gestede both offered very little in attack once coming on but I feel this was largely down to everyone being behind the ball with no midfield to provide them with any service.

Sherwood will learn, however With West Brom and Birmingham City to come, he had better learn quick as I am sure not many Villa fans will excuse the fact of suffering defeat in 3 midland derby’s.

On a plus note, I think the likes of Grealish, Gil, Westwood, Amavi and even Agbonlahor all did very well in the first half. Sherwood just need to turn this into a full 90 minutes. The right back position is still suspect for my liking but time will tell.

Onwards and upward…. I hope
