In the midst of finding a new manager in Roberto Di Matteo, it’s easy to forget that the club was still officially under the ownership of Randy Lerner and that Dr Tony Xia was still a chairman in waiting. Today, Aston Villa were finally able confirm that the club has now 100% been sold to the new Chinese businessman. With what has been weeks since the fit and proper person test begun, I think it’s fair so say that we are all glad that the sale is now complete and that both Xia and Di Matteo can begin the much needed overhaul of the club.
It will be interesting and exciting to see the combined press conference tomorrow at Villa park, despite Di Matteo being appointed well over a week ago now, tomorrow will be the first time we hear from the new boss. That said, if today’s Video of both Di Matteo and Xia is anything to go by, it already looks like the pair have established a strong start to their relationship which can only mean good things for Aston Villa’s future.
For me, this is fantastic news. The passion and enthusiasm shown by Dr Xia in the last 3 weeks has been more that we have seen from Randy Lerner in the last 5 years. Seeing Xia walking past the trophy cabinet and noticeably pointing to the European cup to DI Matteo. You know Di Matteo was probably saying “ I have won that” with Xia saying “go win it again”.
One thing is for certain, despite the fall that our club has taken in recent years, especially with relegation last season, the club appears to have fresh investment and someone in charge with the hunger to succeed. Bring on the new season and let’s get back to where we belong!
