I actually gave up tweeting every time Villa equalised last night as it seemed Notts County just went up the other end and took the lead again. For the neutral, this would have been a great game of football; however I can assure you for us Villa fans, there were certainly a few hearts in mouth moments.

To concede 3 goals against lower league opposition is a real concern especially with the visit of Sunderland the weekend where both teams seam to ship goals for fun. On the plus side, none of the back four featured, so I do expect us to be much tighter the weekend. Plus after thumping them last season, I am sure the team will be full of confidence in trying to repeat the performance.

Stand out performers for me go to the trio of Grealish, Traore and Sinclair – all played fantastic and all involved with the Villa goals. Though, Traore looks to be a doubt for Sunderland after taking a knock. I really do hope all 3 are fit for Saturday and start. A mention for Joe Cole too as he rolled back the years to help give Villa the lead during extra time. Whilst I am at it, if you have not seen Bennett’s goal it was definitely the pick of the Villa bunch.

Our reward for our hard fought victory is a visit from Birmingham. It has felt like an age since we last played them and I am sure this game will make for a special evening and a near sell out Villa Park.

The City is ours!
