Wednesday saw the release of Aston Villa’s Championship fixtures for 2016/17 and I think it’s fair to say that regardless of Villa being in a lower league for the new season, there are some pretty tasty games.

Aston Villa kick off their campaign on Sunday the 7th August away to Championship playoff finalist Sheffield Wednesday. Looking at the first few games, I would certainly feel that we should be targeting 6-7 wins from our opening 10 games. Certainly if the fans get behind the club, I feel Villa should be targeting 4 wins form our opening 5 home fixtures.

The festive period looks rather interesting too with Villa playing forgotten Premier league giants Leeds United twice in December as well as Norwich City, who were relegated along with Villa last season. Villa also have a boxing day treat with the visit of newly promoted Burton Albion.

The closing stages of the season is just as exciting with Villa hosting Birmingham City in their 2nd to last home game. Wouldn’t it be great to grab promotion against our local rivals! The final game is away to Brighton which I know many of us fans were happy Brighton were not promoted as their ground is one of a few Villa fans are very excited about visiting next season. Certainly a great party atmosphere guaranteed regardless of where Aston Villa finish in the league.
